A few years ago, while collaborating with another nonprofit, a small group of people recognized a growing need to support individuals with disabilities beyond veterans and first responders. In the summer of 2021, with the support of Cover Six Canines, they founded 4 Paws 4 A Cause—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing a Service Dog training program to all individuals with disabilities, completely free of charge.
Today, 4 Paws 4 A Cause proudly serves the disability community by helping individuals train their personal dogs to become highly skilled service dogs. Our program includes free classes, testing, certification, and advanced training opportunities. None of this would be possible without the generosity and support of our local community and businesses

How We Do It
We help the individual train their dog with a particular set of skills that will help them interact in the world in ways that would otherwise be impossible. Service dogs are viable for helping with just about every disability. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a disability is any physical or mental impairment that significantly limits a major life activity. That wide definition means service dogs can assist with a broad range of challenges, including hearing loss, physical limitations, and mental health conditions, among many others.
All individuals are required to attend weekly classes with their dog and work to become a fully functional team. Each dog and its handler are trained for Exceptional Obedience, Public Access Training, and Post Certification Skills.
All dogs start in our beginners class and will learn the basic fundamentals of dog training: sit, stand, down, stay, heal and more.
It is important to expose your dog to as many new environments as you can. This will help desensitize them to all sorts of sights, sounds and scents.
Your dog must learn two specific skills to help you. Pick up an object, apply pressure, medical alert, medication reminders...
